THE LEGEND & THE GIANT

written by THORNE PETERS

There he stood, a giant of a man behind the legend

With a voice like thunder that was rolling through the heavens.

Two men; two voices linked for the ages; through all time;

Hope, triumph, tragedy and glory found them side by side.

The Giant once gave a young man a ticket he couldn't afford

So he could hear The Giant's rumbling voice sing praise to the Lord

The boy who would be King said, "One day I'll have you sing for me."

And a smile crossed The Giant's face, for he had said it so humbly

And when that moment came, at the young Legend's darkest hour;

When his spirit needed uplifting through God's musical power;

The Giant stood by him and sang hymns at his mother’s graveside;

Comforting him with love and prayer and holding him while he cried.

Over the years and across the miles they forged the deepest bond;

Of respect, friendship, devotion, worship, and the love of song.

Rock'n Roll, Blues,Ballads, Country, Gospel, man they sang it all;

At Graceland, on planes, in hotel rooms and sold out concert halls

The King thanked The Giant for allowing him to share his stage.

And now it was The Giant who was humbled by honored praise.

Tragically and too soon, the laughter and music came to an end;

And the broken-hearted Giant sang at the grave of The Legend

From that moment, to his last, The Giant sang out loud with love

Of The Legend he had known on Earth and to God up above

And now they have rejoined in Heaven, as it was on Earth

The Legend and The Giant in a never ending concert . . .
